Filipino Woman Superglues her Teeth due to Poverty

Fear is one of the top reasons why most people don't go on regular appointments with their dentists. For most Filipinos however, it's not just the fear of going to the dentist that causes dental problems to build up, it's also the lack of money. With over a huge number of Filipinos living under poverty, health no longer becomes a top priority. 35 year old Gina, baffled the staff of a medical mission when she arrived at the center with superglue where her teeth should be.

Gina explained that her teeth loss started at a very early age. Due to extreme poverty however, she never had the chance to get herself checked out by the dentist. Desperate and embarrassed by her situation, she began to think of other alternatives.
"It all began when I used the superglue to fix a chipped tooth. I thought it fixed the problem really well. Then the following day, I figured that I could use the glue to fill in my missing teeth. It did pretty well for a while, but, I noticed my other teeth began falling off." Gina narrated. "I knew it was wrong, but when I faced people, I didn't think they noticed anything odd with my teeth, so I kept using it."

Since then, the health of her teeth deteriorated drastically, making it difficult for her to chew solid food. Dentists at the said medical mission have given her a brand new set of dentures for free and also advised her never to use superglue for her teeth again.
